As a professional animal trainer and performer for over 30 years and as someone with an insatiable desire to understand how the various components of behavior all fit together, I have expanded my understanding of behavior far beyond Operant Conditioning. Science has known since the early 1960s that operant conditioning, developed first by B.F. Skinner in the 1930’s, was inadequate to describe, predict and control behavior. Yet, modern psychology and animal training is still largely based on his flawed premise. Today, we rarely see professionals identify said flaw or how to correct it. Many don’t even know there is a flaw or if they do, they rarely can explain what it is. In this course we will go way beyond just understanding the flaw. You will not only understand what it is and why it matters, you will learn how to go forward with increased simplicity and effectiveness in managing animal behavior using the five major influences over behavior and why each is equally important to understanding and managing behavior.
